HSC welcomes new school principal
We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new School Principal, Tehmineh Mason. Tehmineh brings to the role five years’ experience working and living in Maningrida with her family. Over the last three years, Tehmineh has worked as a Senior Teacher at Maningrida College, leading Language and Culture and working with Elders to develop an ILC curriculum map. Previously she has worked as a classroom teacher for both primary and secondary students at Maningrida College.
‘I’m excited and honoured to be given this opportunity. Together with elders, families and students, I look forward to developing curriculums for our homeland schools that are place-based and community-led. Integrating cultural priorities into education leads to positive social change, better health outcomes and improved engagement in learning.’
Tehmineh has experienced firsthand the power of education to transform lives. She came to Australia as a refugee, and for her, education has been a way to take control of her own future and build stability in a new country.
‘I believe education has the power to change our future for the better, by providing skills necessary for students to become lifelong learners. I would also like families on the homelands to know that I am very keen and excited to listen, learn their languages, learn about their culture, and to work with them to achieve their educational goals for their children.’
We’re proud to have Tehmineh join the Homeland School Company as we work together to strengthen education on Country. Her experience and dedication to community partnership will play an important role in delivering schools that reflect the aspirations, knowledge, and leadership of our homelands.
