Buluh Kaduru

The Homeland School Company is proposing a number of upgrades to facilities at Buluh Kaduru to support the community as well as teaching staff.

Current picture

Presently, there’s a single-classroom school building at Buluh Kaduru. When the school was established, limited consideration was given to cultural exclusion zones and the school site is in too-close proximity to a ceremony ground. Traditional Owners and Djunkay have recommended HSC explore an alternative location for the school site. There’s also a need for suitable teacher housing in the community—one 2x bedroom modular home would be a good fit. Just down the road, is the small community of Bolkdjam.

Once Buluh Kaduru is registered, a learning on country shed will be built at Bolkdjam. It will be spacious, high-ceilinged, and split down the middle into dhuwa and yirritja working spaces. The shed will also contain a small, air-conditioned office, showers and toilets for both boys and girls, a kitchen, space to park a troopie and plenty of room for work tools and hands-on projects.
